What is reiki?
Reiki is an omnipotent energy that gives life to everything around us and within us. It is the spark of life itself and through this energy we can heal, we can transcend our consciousness, we can connect to all living things. The practice of reiki healing is a therapeutic energy treatment that originated in Japan. It is the laying of hands on the body to generate, balance and increase the life force energy of the receiver. When our life force is weak we are more susceptible to illness, stress and negativity but when it is balanced we are able to handle the stresses of life with more ease and grace. This treatment has many benefits as described above. Each treatment is unique to the individual.
How does reiki work?
Reiki is a the universal life force energy that is flowing in our body throughout invisible channels called meridians and nadis. These channels feed our organs and systems of the body assisting them to do their optimal job. This in turn gives us health and vitality as our body receive optimal energy to function at their highest capacity. When we are weak, ill or stressed, our life force is energy is reduced because we deplete ourselves trying to regain harmony. Receiving reiki when this occurs gives the body an energy boost to assist it in returning to that state of harmony once again. A trained reiki practitioner or master, is able to channel the life force energy to the recipient to assist with this process and aid in healing.
Does reiki work with medical treatments?
Absolutely. Reiki compliments conventional medical treatments and can offer spiritual and emotional support during those types of treatments, as well as the physical benefits. Since reiki can do no harm or counteract medications or medical treatments, it is an excellent therapy to do in conjunction with conventional medical care.
Are there any side effects or disadvantaged to receiving reiki?
In short yes, but they are not what you think of as side effects from medications. A reiki healing treatment treats the whole body. This includes the mind, body, spirit and emotions. It increases the body’s life force energy and it is this energy that improves the function of the organs and systems of the body. This means that the liver and kidneys will be working more optimally to flush out toxins and blocked emotional energy will be released. When this occurs, people can experience mild fatigue, tiredness, headaches, stomach aches, nausea or more frequent urges to go to the bathroom. Why? Because the body is cleansing itself. It is an energetically induced detox. The more toxins stored in the body the more these symptoms can appear. If you have emotions that have been pent up for a long time, a reiki treatment may bring those emotions to the surface. It is important to allow for the release of them and not resist. What you can do during this time is rest, stay hydrated, relax, and eat light. Consider having soups, broth, fruits and juices until this passes. Resist the urge to get things done. This is your cue for downtime.
Is reiki a religion?
No, it is not. Reiki is a spiritual practice that can be practiced by people of any religion. Reiki is universal, meaning the principles of reiki can be found in all religions. These principles are based on love, compassion, and kindness. You will never be asked to change your religion in a reiki training or receiving reiki from a practitioner. If you are, it is a red flag that it is not reiki.
How many reiki treatments do I need?
Reiki treatments are unique to each person and the amount of reiki needed to assist you will depend on what you are needing help with. Ask your practitioner for advice on a reiki treatment plan.
How much are reiki treatments?
The range of a reiki treatment can vary between $60 – $150 per hour. The cost of reiki treatments will vary from practitioner to practitioner and depend on their level of experience, the region, and business expenses. There are less expensive ways to receive reiki than in a private reiki treatment. For example, reiki circles and shares are group activities where practitioners give a few minutes of reiki to each person. There are also community distant healing where practitioners will give reiki to a group of people. This is not specific to an individual’s health needs. It is like sending a large dose of love and healing vibrations out. If you have specific healing needs, it is best to find a practitioner who can work with you privately.
